Question
I have a question about asbestos. I am a freshman in high school and all of are schools were built in the 1970's. I went for freshman orientation on about August 25 and I went on the third floor and asbestos removal was in progress when people were in the building. I do not believe there was actual removal at the time but barriers and signs were posted. Do you think I could have been exposed? Also the school has been adding fiber optics I believe, throughout the building and have had to remove parts of the drop ceilings to do it. When this occurred a man removed the tile and then I though I heard him curse because a gray fluffy material with white specs of some sort fell on the floor. This substance was on many parts of the floor throughout the third level. Could it be Asbestos? Also we are doing archery class in the basement next to the boiler room and in this room there are vents and pipes that have a wrap around it and you can see a yellow insulation and on the vents portions are damaged and more yellow insulation is exposed. Could this be asbestos or fiberglass since its a yellowish color? I am worried about what this could be. Should I report my school? If you think I should what agencies should i contact?
Answer
There is asbestos everywhere. Don't flip out about this. Stay where you should be during removal of it. There are not millions of workers and families dying of this, there is, as with any toxic or toxin people who have or will die from this. Your entire town at one time or another was probably DDTed too, yep we have had many bad harmful things put everywhere. Asbestos is not a oh I was in the room and I got exposed. I would be a million dollars, if I had it, that you, and me, and everyone has been exposed all the time and do not realize it. Your fine, accidents happen during clean ups, they hired pros there not there to hurt you or themselves. Permalink:
